Title: WebEx or LiveMeeting?
Post by: deanwebb on March 19, 2015, 02:13:31 PM
Which do you prefer? Why?

For me, WebEx. Better voice quality, better screen sharing, better overall experience.

I always find it humorously ironic whenever I'm in a WebEx session being run by a Cisco competitor.  :))

Always used WebEx because that was what was purchased and/or a partner had to sell. Can't say I've seen that many vendors that use anything other than WebEx either.

I think there's a reason for that. Also, WebEx is very easy to start a recording in.

Unfortunately of us, it looks like LiveMeeting is the standard we want to go with... so why does it drop call portions so much?

Because it's cack.

We use WebEx but their support is dire. I've had a case open for ages with no response. They identified a Level 3 internet router doing filtering to their datacentre and requested I contact Level 3 to fix it.

Just seen this. Their support team backtracked and told us it was a faulty server hardware causing the voip drops and other issues.

To be honest I don't know if they were telling the truth or not, but it took them over a year to find it. Multiple cases opened and multiple times they told me my internet was bad. Again on each occasion I gave them reasons why this was not true, such as a room of people on the meeting and 2 or 3 are affected only. Or a webex meeting of 10 people and everyone affected are working from different locations on different connections.

Since they fixed that issue it's been 100% good though.

Does anyone else have an issue where WebEx screen sharing is delayed by like 4-5 seconds from whoever is viewing?  Also, does it seem that when someone requests control they can never type/move the mouse correctly?

Yes. Something has changed in WebEx, and it now takes longer to establish a voice connection with my PC and video is sketchy. I has a sad.

I have been on a few WebEx sessions with Cisco TAC and I cannot tell if it is because I am on a Mac or if it is the delay but they are unable to type consistently and unable to copy/paste with remote control.  I had a WebEx session with a group of guys in the office while I worked from home.  The delay from my screen was anywhere from 4-5 seconds.  It really makes it hard to do training or deep-dive a problem if they are seeing screens that are 4-5 seconds behind where you think they are at.

My favorite is a webex of a citrix session to a jump box running RDP to another box that's running... wait for it...

Sorry I missed the above!

Webex delays or other weird issues need to advise support. I've not seeen that level of delay but we have had other weird issues which turned out to be faults that webex can fix. The problem is getting the fault seen by support and accepted by them as a fault.

Recently, webex has had some changes. With mac previously webex didn't work unless you went into the security settings on the browser and allowed it to run. I don't think this is necessary anymore so it's improving.
