I'll be happy to host the pick 'em this year. I'll be inviting others to it, so it's hopefully not just me vs. Ristau. :smug:

Winner's outs. :smug:
Got another guy in it, so we'll have more than 2 if you sign on, Ristau!
is this a straight pick em like last year, or doing spreads?
any other rules specifics?
Straight pick em, and get your picks in before the games start.
Update: I made my first week picks. Don't think anything in the last preseason game will change anything.

Technically, I could change everything before Thursday's game... but most of the conventional wisdom going into the picks seems to be continuing all the teams' performance from last year, which I think is a mistake in the case of a handful of teams.
Steelers v Cleveland? Not one of those mistakes. I'm hoping Cleveland beats *somebody* this year, but I really don't think it'll be Pittsburgh.
I've read that Cleveland has has a big turn around in the off season, though 27th in the power rankings, they've still got to prove. I also read that the Steelers has a bad draft in 2018, B rated, but considered worst in AFC North.

Steelers with a bad draft are still the Steelers, though. :smug:
Yay Philadelphia, by the way. Atlanta put up a good fight, but Philly's defense made some important stands and got the job done.
The last minute of the Eagles/Falcons was intense. The Eagles almost screwed it up, but was able to hold on.

Dallas stunk it up with penalties, that was just some horrible, sloppy play that killed drives.
Cleveland is off to its best start since 2004... 0-0-1!

Ravens crushed the Bills, not a good day to be a Bills fan. That one was hard to watch, even as a Ravens fan.

Yeah, those Bills are not in a good place, at all. Meanwhile, St. Aaron of Green Bay performed another miracle, actually *improving* with an injury. Basically, if Rogers is on the field and there are at least 2 minutes on the clock, Green Bay can score about 28 points, easy.
..and we thought last season was weird, 2 weeks two ties.... :squint:
a lot of unexpected wins this week, for me at least.
my team picking juju needs a refresh.
I felt really bad for the kicker. Three failed kicks in the game. That timeout to ice the GB kicker worked. That had to suck.
-Otanx
Cleveland lost their game in the most Clevelandy way possible... I expect they'll have a new kicker before their next game.
Jax looks to be the real deal with their controlling win over the Patriots yesterday. KC is also a big contender, but expect coaches to start to adjust to Mahomes' style.
Prince Carson of Philly will return to the field, but Winston might not in Tampa...
Dallas was able to beat up on the Giants, but they still managed to self-destruct for a little while in the late game, racking up drive-killing penalties. If they were playing a more aggressive team with a better offensive line, they would have been handed a L.
Then there's Vontae Davis formerly of the Bills, tired of being on a losing team, throws in the towel, and retires mid-game...

Just does not make sense... I mean, the
middle of the game? Come on...
Meanwhile, it's a great time to be a fan of KC and Tampa Bay. Act now, this is a limited time only!

I missed that happening. Just looked it up. Never heard of a rage retirement before. Now I have to explain to my coworkers why I am laughing.

OK, I made my picks for Week 3. They *look* pretty straightforward, hoping I get more than 8 right.
Cleveland won! Yes! :woohoo:
Good Start for another week of crappy picks.
I'm feeling better about this week, I don't think I'm going to have many upsets. The matchups seem to be pretty evident how they're going to play out.
Of course, I say that NOW...
... and then the actual football happens.
The Bills and Lions winning were the two biggest surprises...
Another pick-6 week for me. second in a row, I know Pick-6 sounds good in football, but not in that way.

I know what you mean...
About the only sure thing we have going this year is that Chris Matthews will be flagged for tackling a QB.
Insane week... so many things that looked to be for sure went flying out the window... the Lions *beat* Green Bay!

Cleveland Beat Baltimore????
more like Baltimore lost to Cleveland, WTF
that was a shoe-in
This expression purportedly comes from the practice of corrupt jockeys holding their horses back and shooing a preselected winner
across the finish line to guarantee that it will win. A "shoo-in" is now an easy winner, with no connotation of dishonesty.
"Shoe-in" is a common misspelling

Columbus Day weekend, and Redskins lost, Indians, and Braves both lost in baseball. Coincidence?

One more reason to choose a different name for those clubs.

Here's my proposal
Washington Foreskins
Cleveland Minions
Atlanta Brats

Checking the scores... I got burned hard on some of my picks, looks like.
With last week's results, I'm pulled up even with Ristau. :smug:
But, dang, those games with middle-of-the-pack teams are hard to call.
What did you guys have for the LA KC game? I almost didn't watch it, but the hockey game was blacked out.
-Otanx
I had the LAR, but I'm still in 2nd place since lots of favorites lost.

I picked KC, but knew it was going to be a toss-up. And an air show. Wow.

Teams that will very likely be in the playoffs that these guys did not at all see coming:
Cowboys
Bears
Seahawks
And while some teams with lots of votes will likely make the playoffs, it may not be as division champs, as most predicted.
Big lolz at how the Jaguars were highly touted and then went on to fall apart this season.
Dean, Yer 1 pick ahead, GL.....
It all comes down to Week 17 and whether or not the teams out in front decide to rest their starters for the playoffs...
Well played, Ristau, only one less correct pick than I had for the regular season.
I've opened it up for the playoffs, if you want to keep going.
Reactions from the past weekend...
1. Referees in New Orleans need to immediately receive seeing-eye dogs, canes, and other special accouterments intended to provide aid and relief to the blind.
2. NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER think you've won the game if Tom Brady has over a minute of game time to work with. In fact, you have likely already lost the game, in spite of your points lead.
