Title: RP vs non-RP Connectors
Post by: mynd on January 06, 2015, 10:21:22 AM
I've been reading up antennas for a home project, but I've ran into some confusion regarding RP (reverse polarity) connectors

As I've read (here (http://blog.oscarliang.net/difference-sma-rpsma-connector-antenna-fpv-copter/)), RP means Reverse Polarity, but it really just changes the middle coax pin from the plug (male side) to the outlet (female side).

Quote from: http://blog.oscarliang.netRP-SMA (stands for Reverse Polarity SMA) is a variation of the SMA connector specification which reverses the gender of the interface.

Is this accurate?

Reverse Polarity, to me, sounds more than just a physical connector. As in, if you use an adapter to plug an RP Antenna into an non-RP external antenna connector, it may do some damage to either the gear or the antenna.
