Title: Following the Sun... Even When It's Dark Here!
Post by: deanwebb on August 12, 2021, 07:29:30 PM
FUN FACT: 7PM-11PM my time is 8AM-Noon in Singapore!

I'm shadowing a team member who's delivering services in APAC. I like helping out, but thank goodness I blocked out 11PM-7AM my time so I can sleep!

You take the idea of shadowing very seriously. You get the entire continent in shadow.

You know it! But, yes, even on the vendor side, we can wind up working all kinds of odd hours, thanks to the world being round and all that.

It has been many years, but I remember those days. Coming in at midnight to support the first day of a European deployment. Also on the other side when working overseas, having to be in the office super late just to call support because they only worked 9-5 US time.

This is my last day of the APAC calls, fitting that I'm responding here. :D

And my planned afternoon "break" didn't really start until everyone in the USA stopped bugging me... around 5 PM or so...

Oh yeah. When it was up to me I used to go to the office early so I could catch the west coast team before the end of their day.

As a manager, I'm having 2 team meetings, one for EMEA/USA East/Central and the other for APAC/USA Pacific.

The fun of being a manager. I used to do two meetings, but for shift workers. One at the days/swing transfer, and another for the mid team. Always take notes on what I wanted to cover, and check it off for each meeting. Make sure everyone got the same information.

must be a fun time for a manager to have those team building events, with everyone so spread out.

unless you play a multiplayer online game that supports teams.

That would be fun stuff, though!
