Title: Certification Goals 2022
Post by: deanwebb on January 24, 2022, 12:12:53 PM
New year, new employer, and new directions. I'm working on RedSeal certifications right now. Cool product that does end-to-end mapping of the network.

The problem with RedSeal is the Java client. The web interface does not do everything. Other than that it seems cool.

Still working CPEs for my CISSP. My renewal is March 2023 so have to get them all done by then. No more procrastination.

Renew Azure Certified Solutions Arch Expert, deadline June.
Might take the Azure network engineer associate and security associate ones  just for kicks.

MS has changed it around a lot, now their certs expire quicker, but, you can renew with a free online test from Microsoft Learn (and I don't think its formally proctored with time bookings, spyware etc. like the Pearson ones).

none,  at 56, it's harder and harder to study for stuff with no intent to use.
brain is tired.  not so young as it used to be.  thinking more ahead to full time vacation.
but funding is an issue. My dad retired at 55.

Adding in CrowdStrike and RedSeal and and and... My role is working in the no-man's land between vendor integrations and actually getting them to work beyond "well, we got them to connect, so good luck making everything work." When you work directly for a vendor, you don't get cross-product training because you don't work for *both* vendors involved in the connection. So both vendors will walk up to where the connection gets made and stop there, or give minimal support after that. It's mostly out of not knowing what the other product does or can do.

So, if I learn both sides of the connection, I can advise on things to do in both products that help to mature the security overall. I believe that no product can be considered optimized in its deployment unless it is integrated with the other tools around it.

Well, I got a bonus riding on my getting two Palo certs by mid-September. :smug:

First one is PSE, second is PCNSA. I think I can get 'er done, especially since we got a Palo at work that I have admin access to... it's in the lab, even...

Got them both. PSE Strata P has plenty of sales in it, fun times. PCNSA is way more technical - read the admin guide before testing, that's what saved me!

Managed to slide into an FSCE exam prep to close out the year. Maintained the others. Next year I want to be doing something other than Forescout.

I've got Splunk and ServiceNOW on my radar and I really should go back and grab the AWS one I didn't do this year. Looks like I'll be starting the 2023 thread soon. :smug:

Being at Forescout put a big pause on my certs outside of those for that vendor, as expected. Getting out of Forescout has got me back into the test-taking game. But unlike others I took this year, the SNOW and Splunk ones will be for actually working with the products in our lab and with vendors building out applications between their software and those tools.

I would love to get into AWS or Azure, Redseal has been on my radar for a long time too, and Splunk.
