Is the virtual switch configured to point DHCP requests to the DHCP server?

Do we need to configure virtual switch on virtual machine running on windows host as well? I mean I am not doing this on hyper-v, VM should me give that option(adapters in network part) to create a connection between virtual server and client on same machine? I am confused lol.

For example adapters as shown in image attached.

I am using windows server 2012 on Virtual box. Also, I have installed windows 8.1 on the same virtual box which needs to act as a client.

I have created a scope, gave address range  and configured scope options, I did everything right on server.

I am trying to lease out the Ip address to the client which I have configured on the same virtual machine. How do I make sure that my server on VM gives out Ip address to my client on same VM? Which of the adapters should I use? I tried using Host-only network adapters.

I am going through a lot of material right now in reference with security+ and vmware (just for learning purpose). I was watching videos on how a malware can have its effect on technologies like PLCs(stuxnet?) and every other devices connected to Internet.

Say, if migration from a physical network to virtualized network takes place i.e. if importance of Control plane increases over data plane, isn't it going to be more riskier from security point of view?

If someone gets into Control plane and starts misbehaving with it, the implications can be severe? Right?

Please let me know if I am missing something.

Question

If someone gets a VMware exam discount code to take up to 6 (six) online, unproctored VMware Certification exams at 70% off the normal price (via School). Is it worth doing?

The VMware VCA-NV costs around $35 with the discount code!

I finally installed VMware vSphere Hypervisor  today!

I am currently planning to install a Windows 2008 server and centOS for learning purpose. I learnt a great deal about the installation and stuff on bare metal (I hope I'm correct with terms). I always thought it was tough. I really found it difficult to grasp the importance of ram back then. But as I installed a virtual machine I realized its importance.

I'm planning to keep on rotating the virtual machines i.e. I will learn about CentOS and Windows 2008 server and then I will try other OS by replacing the installed ones until I get some more ram.

Open to suggestions.

Steps for those who are interested in installing VMware Hyper Visor:

1. Download VMware vSphere hyper visor from VMware website (both client and iso file).
i. Need to register.
ii. 60 days evaluation version [emoji848]
2. Download UNetbootin.
3. Start UNetbootin and choose: Diskimage. ISO. Select the downloaded ESXi ISO. Type: USB Drive. Drive: Select your USB drive. Select OK. (Courtesy: blog.nowherelan.com)
4. Eject pen drive from laptop (where everything is downloaded). Insert in your server box.
5. Start the boot up process using USB.
6. Watch this video:

7. Install your desired OS.
8. Enjoy the process [emoji4]

I am currently learning the software side of things and agile developement and trying to get into this network devops side of the world.  Everything makes sense its funny it took so long for most network people to get in this realm of thinking. I even grew a beard...... im devops ready haha.

And done with CCNA R & S :D

It was tough!!

I am so confused with what certification should I next [emoji26]

I don't want to take CCNP so soon i.e. Without any industry experience. I will study though.

I'm studying for CCDA and CCNA wireless but it's of no use to go for all exams Cisco offers without knowing where I am going to end up. (Not affordable).

I have seen seniors going towards security with Security+ or CCNA security and getting jobs at companies like Dell secure.

Or may be I should go for rhcsa and then rhce? I have seen internship opportunities asking for both CCNA and Rhce [emoji849]

My goal is to get a job by fall or next spring. Any suggestions what should I do next?

I Wish ________ was automated in networking? Feel free to add what you do on a daily basis and wish it was automated so that you can spend more time on learning about other new things :D

P.S. I want to develop scripts that might help you :)
