Security / SCAP-OVAL
September 13, 2016, 10:24:27 AM
Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone has used SCAP to scan your devices. In my case, Im trying to scan a Catalyst 3750 but not having much luck. I have the SCAP tool but am having trouble locating the OVAL files. I'm able to scan my Windows 7 box with no issues. Im trying to scan a local file that I exported via TFTP using the show tech support command. This is all new to me so if anyone has any insight on how this is done and what Im doing wrong let me know.

Dean, thank you for your generosity. I actually ended up purchasing the INE videos and to my surprise Chris Bryant had videos on Udemy as well so I am going to go through those courses. Im SURE I'll have a TON of questions for you when I go through the videos though.

Between studying for my Linux essentials exam, CCNP-Route and now learning about firewalls to work towards my CCNA Security I think I have my hands full for the next 6 months at least.

I have to be honest. I'm a total newbie with ASA's. I've only ever played with Juniper SRX240's but even with them I wouldn't call myself an expert. I'm going to purchase the INE videos. I got to preview them and the instructors look like they will be able to hold my attention. Much appreciated!

Security / Cisco ASA training

Hi all,

I just inherited a 5510 to play with at my job. Is there anywhere I can go to get video training? I searched Udemy, which is where I normally go for training, but there wasnt much. Youtube had a couple things. Just wondering if you guys might know a site I can go to to get video training for basic concepts and commands. Doesnt have to be too in depth, just something to get my feet wet.  Thanks!

Routing and Switching / Re: 3560 for home ccnp labs

I ended up going with the CISCO WS-C3750-48TS-E Catalyst 3750. Unfortunately, can't upgrade to IOS 15 but I think I'll be pretty happy with this purchase to go along with my 3550 for now.

I'm using Udemy Chris Bryant and Skillport for my CCNP Route exam and HOLY CRAP there is a ton of material. I allocated 3 months to study, lab and pass the exam but I think I'm going to push it to 4 or 5 months. It feels like I'm at the bottom of a mountain looking up right now LOL

First thing is first though, I'm taking the Linux Essentials LPI exam June 15 but will be studying concurrently for the Route exam.

Can you guys recommend a "cheap" (sub $125) SRX that I can use at home to learn on?

Ccnp switch done! On to Route...with a detour to Linux essentials first.

Well boys and girls, T minus 13 hours until I sit for the CCNP Switch exam. Hope I don't walk out of there with my tail between my legs!

Routing and Switching / 3560 for home ccnp labs

Thinking about picking this 3560 up for dirt cheap on ebay

http://m.ebay.com/itm/201546399063

I have a 3550 and 2 2960s now but I'd like to have more options such as qos, ipv6, private vlans, etc. Also, just to have two layer 3 switches in general would be a bonus. What do you guys think of this?  Not really buying it to study for my ccnp switch exam since I take that this Saturday. Thoughts on this 3560?

Switches keep no history of dhcp allocations,  so if you wanted to know who had ip 10.45.99.15 last Thursday at 5PM for a security investigation you are out of luck.

You had me at hello LOL....great reason! Thank you all for your insight. I think I'll leave it to the Server team LOL

I can definitely see that. We only have 1 subnet so I was thinking about offering to move our dhcp services to our switch, more fun and more control for me! Lol Just an idea I was throwing around in my head.

Hi all, in your opinions, what do you think the pros and cons of using DHCP on a switch would be as oppose to having it on a typical DHCP server? To be honest, I only see it as being advantageous.
