Yeah, repeaters are rough things to work with. That is why I junked mine and went with a local mesh system. Much better coverage and signal strength.
Ok. Thanks. But how does it work a mesh system?
Excuse me for the OT post..

Do you have the model of the router and the model of the powerline?

The only powerline I know is ethernet through the mains power circuit. If you have a powerline with a configurable wifi AP inside, then you can keep the SSID / Wifi name the same as on the wifi router, but you must choose a different channel. If it's 2.4GHz then use either channels: 1 or 6 or 11.

If you keep the channel the same then your devices will clash and you will not have a good wifi connection, if at all.

Otherwise more info might be helpful :)
I encounter the issue only for Ftp transferring and I don't think that could be a selected channel used..
My powerline kit is:
TP-Link TL-WPA4220 Kit Powerline WiFi, AV600 Mbps on Powerline, 300 Mbps on WiFi 2.4 GHz, 2 Ethernet ports, Plug and Play, WiFi Clone, HomePlug AV

The router is:
TP-Link W8980

Looks like it's doing a wireless repeater function but I am not 100% sure. Wireless (b/g/n) is half duplex. Adding a repeater into the mix makes it kind of like 1/4 duplex  :eek:
I'm guessing either that there is some loss and a timeout or the FTP signaling is dropping.

Have you tried different FTP mode to see if you have a different experience? ref: http://slacksite.com/other/ftp.html

At this point I'd be setting up a wireshark packet capture to see what is going on.

Thanks my friend...

I noticed that if I use two devices connected to the different access points (one to powerline and another to the router) the connection is established but I noticed inconstant speed with significant drops of speed and that maybe depends on my home's electric system where I connected the powerline kit..

I think it explains that the configuration is fine and the ports are well configured.
What you linked to me about Slacksite.com is quite technical but I don't think is a Ftp mode issue..and what I described at beginning of this post is meaningful..

So everything else works, except for FTP?
Yes. The problem occurs when I'm with my devices near my wifi powerline adapter and they're connected to it.
The Ftp connection doesn't work but if I take the devices in the router's room the connection is established as 7Mb/s speed.

Are you sure your powerlines are in sync across the power circuits?
Yes because I'm navigating through the powerline as I'm sending you this message...

Why did you ask that?

Hi, I'm using a TpLink W8980 router and a TpLink powerline in my network.
I need to transfer very large files over my Wifi Lan to and from my phone/pc and I've noticed that when you are near the router the connection is established and the files is transferred but I'm with my devices near my powerline that it has  the same Ap's router name I can't connect the other device.
Why do you think is this happen?

Hi, I've just bought a Google Home mini but in my Lan I have set dhcp disabled as I'm working with static IP addresses.
I don't know how can I communicate with the Google mini.
My router is Tp-Link W8980.
Thanks!!

Thank you both for replies. Happy new year andI I'm sorry for my delay in answering.

@deanwebb
I've just checked but I've not found tips about my issue.
It's strange that for these expensive cams we are encountering these problems.
I set ftp server and I got success. I inserted the name dir as the example and I created the same dir and path in my FTP server but  no recordings I found there..
Into the string at bottom I read c:\IPCamRecord for Local Recording Location.
If I select Browse I can browse into my local hdd with their folders..

@ristau5741
Sd card was recognised by cam and it read full size of my sd card. Anyway there isn't a key to format the SD card by web page configuration camera...

Hi, I'm encountering an issue related on recording on sd card installed into cam's slot and ftp way.
I configurated ftp server and if you try to test through the camera web page you can get success by test.
I enabled motion detection but I don't find my recordings into directory..
The same result I get when I switch the sd card as the place for recordings.
Do you know how can I set this camera for recordings?
My router is a Tplink and I use a Synology as Ftp server..

True, the Netgear product is not entry-level. But, you get what you pay for.

As for distance, you want to check your signal strength from the main wifi router using an app - I use the Netgear app for that on my phone. It will show you where you have different levels of signal strength in your house.
Usually I use wi-fi analyzer app in Android and it seems quite accurate but when I tested my network it seemed configurated fine but after some days I can connect that cam only sporadically...
What do you think about Netgear N300 or other cheaper products by Netgear (pr other brand) than you suggested me one?

Home and Small Office Networking / Wifi repeater Amzdeal
December 05, 2017, 02:47:55 PM
@deanwebb

The netgear repeater costs a lot. I checked on Amazon and it costs about 130Eur.
Surely that is a different product than Amzdeal one.
I have an old Linksys modified with ddwrt software installed and I can try that increasing about at maximum power..
When I installed the Amz wifi repeater I was able to connect not always my cam but now I can't connect cam anymore.
The second camera is positioned near the router/Ap and the cam is always reachable...

@deanwebb
@ristau5741

The router is a key 3G/4G router with sim card and is a Huawei model.
I installed the repeater in 5 meters far and I have two walls among them even if the two doors are opened completely..
The wifi repeater is installed in a appropriate position to receive signal from router and to give internet to my cam installed in about 6 meters far with 1 wall and an opened door.
I assigned the same SSID and it's very strange that I can't connect this cam..

Home and Small Office Networking / Wifi repeater Amzdeal
December 02, 2017, 01:03:34 PM
Hi, I'm using a WiFi repeater brand as in subject but I'm very disappointed because the wifi range is not quite extended and the link to my router isn't quite stable even if is located in a good position.

Can you suggest some better WiFi repeater for my case?

Thanks..

Is MAC filtering enabled? (should be)
Are the filtering rules set to Allow or Deny? (should be allow)
Did you click on the check box and then click on "enable selected"

if you need pictures, the manual is here.

Hi, at page 61 of this manual you can read that the ALLOW gives access at the stations you have inserted into the list.
But since I'm looking for block only some mac addresses I think you need to select Deny..

you would select either allow or deny for the items in the list,    if you want block, select deny, if you want to let pass, select allow.
Indeed the router should block only those Mac addresses into the list with Deny but strangely the station isn't blocked to access...

Just to be clear, the device is connected to your wireless network, right?
Yes, I confirm that..
