I personally feel there are good and bad dudes/ettes in all departments. I just hate IT phonies, just bodies that are taking up a full time position that need their hand held to do anything above basic.

A bit feminine, but throwing a nice hot Epsom salt bath before bed seems to work wonders most times. Especially the salts with relaxing properties. Throw on some tunes, disappear in my thoughts, perform a soft reboot.

CCNA, CCNA /S, MCSA Server 2012 are on my radar. I'm at the "beginning" of my networking career, I feel these certs will keep me marketable for most jobs. Two of them are required for my degree plan as well.

One word: solar

YES! My electric bill has been creeping up the more and more toys I show up home with. Next weekend project for sure. Know of any sources out there I can get some design ideas from?

Im currently running 3x 3560 POE Switch, 1x 2524 Router (Access Server) for physical equipment. All of my physical equipment was given to me fo free, but the all have IOS 12.x on em. I wasn't trying to go out into the void to get 15 series IOS, but I need to get the practice on em. I have access to packet tracer in which I can use 18 and 19 series routers w/ IOS 15, but im a sucker for lights and I want physical stuffs, just broke until I start work next monf.

Thanks guys! Im right there with you all, knowledge is key in this business. Already have a lab going at home that should be good through NP studies, pluralsight subscription for video content, and a library of tech books in my dungeon. Between here and techexams, I should be able to stay on top of the education battle.

Just got the call, hired as an IT Apprentice Engineer, starting Feb 2. The company is Atrion and apparently its the first recognized IT apprenticeship in the US. Its a year long deal with 12 weeks of classroom training with the rest of the year as an OJT. The program is heavily focused on Cisco, but also some server and VMware I believe. Anyways, just thought id brag about my good fortune, im extreeeeemmeeelly excited to get to work, as most of you know its not easy getting that first networking gig these days w/o experience. Ill try and post some updates about the journey. Back to the shadows I go, need to get this CCNA done yesterday lol. :matrix:   8)

Names Joe, another TechExams lurker, from Rhode Island. Been doing IT now for almost 10 years, in the military and for the DVA. All of my experience has been down in the trenches doing help-desk/desk-side support, and I'm ready to make a specialty change and move on over to Systems/Networking. Currently studying for CCNA, I have a nice lab at home already. Looking to absorb any knowledge I can and provide any if I have it. Thanks for creating the group, see you around! :pub:
