I think i am tired as that doesnt make sense in my head.

Right i have a standard and extended ACL

then i have a named ACL  which can be a standard ACL or a extended ACL but it is named rather than a number.

or is there a syntax difference in Named standard or extended.

Im confusing myself  :smug:

SO really in the real world you would only use named acls ?

If so why do they mention Standard or extended ?

Seems CISCO are going over alot of lagacy stuff or am i wrong in saying that?

Question ACLS.

Now we have standard ACLS which deal with traffic from source destination
We also have extended that give you more granular control

Now i have come across named access lists that can be either standard or extended.

So my question is why do we have named access list and standard and extended. from reading the name access list do the same thing as standard or extended but with a named access list you can name it. But you can put a remark in a standard or extended.

So if i am right why have standard and extended? if named gives you more and does the same thing ?

Sorry tired maybe im missing something.

cheers

Routing and Switching / Re: Ether channel.

So i am guessing that VTP v3 is enabled by default with the new IOS or do you have to enable it some how. Just curious.

The VTP makes sense thats why i use it i dont want to create vlan 100 with name on 5 different switches.

Is there a reason why you said VTP gives you problems ? curious what these are ?

VTP traffic. I am guess that when i create a trunk and if the native vlan does not have access to the trunk VTP packets would not be pased as this is untagged traffic. Never mind think i just answered my own question.

What two different commands will return the router to its default state

This was one of the question i think it was directed at the hello-interval

The theme I get here is the people you work with are muppets that's why you would not take the job. For me I would see that as an opportunity to try and get these people to a level you could work with. As their manager you can flip the switch back to zero if they do not perform you edge them out of the company. But what if the engineer is not performing because he's demoralised what if in his last role he's wasn't trained correctly. Remember not everyone's career path is same people havent always have the guidence that you had at the start of your career.

I agree thats why i never asked where to get images. Its different if you work in the industry as you will most probably have a support login to cisco and can use these for testing purposes. But us beginers have to use what we have available that just happens to be Packet tracer.

Also you never told me the second command to

clear ip ospf hello-interval
i know about
no IP OSPF hello interval what is the other. (This is driving me insane as i cannot find the answer)

Yes i would like to play with GNS3 but like Simonv said you need images. Without the images well useless.

I have a lot of information floating around in my brain. this Forum is now joining the dots.  Well some of it.

Still stuck on

IP OSPF hello-interval

Ebveryone seems to use no ip OSPF hello-interval x

Hi Otanx,

I would expect that in time the packet would expire.....Yes just looked this up it counts down its ttl. As for sending more packets i would expect that bandwidth on the lines to shrink to a point where its the equivalent of a broadcast storm in effect. unresponsive network.
