Non-vendor specific training/conference suggestions?

It's time for me to pick out training and conferences I want to hit in 2015. I'm in the security area, and my manager encouraged me to get non-vendor-specific training and conferences. Vendor stuff usually gets covered through project budgets, hence his reasoning.

So... any suggestions for some good security stuff? I deal mostly with the firewalls and NAC here.

Yep. SANS is the defacto, pretty much, when it comes to IT security

CISSP is a mile wide and an inch deep.  you could probably knock that one on your own.

Also Infosec Institute, which brings up all kinds of ironies. First time I ever mention them, and it's not on their sponsored forum. Go fig.

SANS. I did SEC502 in October. The class was pretty good. A lot of the topics were stuff I knew, but getting to play with the labs, and actually see it was cool. Will probably do 503 or 504 next. If you go to a SANS conference make sure you go to as many after hours "SANS@Night" talks you can. A lot of good information. Also the vendor lunches were informative for a vendor lunch. Do Net Wars. It is not optional. Do it. I was torn as I wanted to hear another speaker that conflicted with the net wars event. Did net wars and loved it. If you don't do pen-testing all the time it is awesome to actually gain root on a linux system.

I just received notice yesterday that two coworkers and I are headed to Cisco Live this year.  After this week in the Pittsburgh, PA area (cold and snowy), I cannot wait to be in San Diego.

I've requested SANS conferences and a Cisco course for keeping my CCNP. Second course choice was an Infosec Institute course.

SANS is my vote too.

I was booked to attend the basic course a few years ago at my last gig but it was cancelled so other could go :(

SANS is very very expensive, if one attends a course... looking at RSA Conference, might get the go-ahead on it. The trick will be getting a hotel and not having to sleep on the street...
