At a customer where that is the big demand, an exec wants iPads for him and all the other execs, and wants them now.

Exec wants to be "agile" - so they have to get on without being enrolled in the MDM, having a machine cert, or even with a business justification about why the iPad is better for a given function than the iPhones and laptops already provided by the company.

I'm the vendor, so I can only watch and cry as I tell them that, yes, I can get them on the network, but, no, it won't be in a very secure way at all...

I hate how execs want to be agile for their toys, but not when it comes to getting new tech that helps everyone else...

I got a tough job late yesterday. Devs presently using macs and for some reason have been saying the new windows laptops they cannot use. Even though it comes with ubuntu, there is big resistance. Anyway, they wernt able to kick up a fuss about it and now strangely the new laptops are all faulty, with the screens not staying up, or the screens going off when you open the laptop and at a certain point the screen will go off. In my experience, these kinds of issues usually occur when people fold the screen flat with the table.

So the big boss says we have to use ubuntu. But not WSL. Either virtualbox with ubuntu or native ubuntu. And I need to research the Ubuntu Advantage tool to manage them all :XD:
All I can see is risk risk risk. I'll do the research and present my findings in a week. They're adamant its the way to go and have started ordering laptops without any Windows licenses.  :-X

When you provision the Ubuntus, set up each one with a root-level account that you can use to SSH into those boxes.

Oh yeah, you also have to set them up for SSH.

Yes had done this for macs already. It was the only way to think of to get management access to install certs and update the admin password. I'm hoping the management tool will let me deploy a custom qcow image to the laptops as well. That way I can create a build for dev and simply deploy.
They've expressed their main reason for choosing this is performance. So they're getting a lightweight system with lxde or xfce desktop.

Be sure nobody has admin/root privs on their own box, or they'll kill you to death with stupid user tricks...
