We have locations on 6 continents so it makes things rather tough when you aren't dedicated all the time to voice. My biggest issue is that I'm an R&S guy with some VoIP knowledge. I can do the basic day to day things but this isn't my career path. I'd rather do security over voice. Some of these places it's very hard to find SIP. I've got a good general design for things but with so many different rules and regulations I'm sure I'll screw something up. I told the boss I'm not here to do voice, he disagreed. That was an RGE for me!

Absolutely, and that boss is about to find out how hard it is to get a guy to do R&S *and* voice.  :drama: Sounds like they're about to have a Budget-Adjustment Opportunity after your RGE plays out.
:problem?:

The job market is such that most of us don't have to accept bad fits for our skills and goals.

That is all so true. And as screwed up as management is here I'm sure they'll assume I'm just some prima donna with my panties in a bunch.

An RGE thread is definitely a good call.  :pub:

Friend of mine got an unanticipated RGE when he posted on FB that he had had a rough day at work. His boss was paranoid, kept tabs on employees' FB posts, and fired him for trash-talking about the company in public.

That boss is now dealing with a wrongful-termination suit due to some errors that he made in the process of terminating someone for a FB post, my friend collected unemployment for a little while, and now has a new job.

So, if your management is paranoid: RGE!

Haha - as I read that I was like, "LAWSUIT!", before I even got to the part about the boss dealing with a suit... hilarious.  It's amazing how some folks even became managers in the first place.

RGE in my case
- spent 18 months doing crap that you were doing as a L1 engineer / administrative (Service delivery) tasks... except you are supposed to be a L3 engineer
- my boss quits citing lack of faith in 'company direction'
- numerous yes men promoted to fill the gap
- numerous people including large numbers of yes men mysteriously go on leave, security guys check logs and they all are VPN-ing in from Bangalore
- request is raised to provide 120 new employees in bangalore access to our sharepoints

This fact has been getting me jobs for years but its a double edged sword - I DON'T LIKE VOICE lol

I've actually received an offer from my old work but the main sticking point is that I will have dive head-first back into carrier grade SIP and the birthing pains of a new platform (its not call manager or any widely available IP-PBX - carrier grade stuff is a totally different beast). Given that I started the birth procedure of that system 18 months ago (and when I left it was @ the stage where you could configure a number and dial in/dial out) and they're still trying to bring it to market... what does that tell you....
