I've been reading up antennas for a home project, but I've ran into some confusion regarding RP (reverse polarity) connectors

As I've read (here), RP means Reverse Polarity, but it really just changes the middle coax pin from the plug (male side) to the outlet (female side).

Quote from: http://blog.oscarliang.netRP-SMA (stands for Reverse Polarity SMA) is a variation of the SMA connector specification which reverses the gender of the interface.

Is this accurate?

Reverse Polarity, to me, sounds more than just a physical connector. As in, if you use an adapter to plug an RP Antenna into an non-RP external antenna connector, it may do some damage to either the gear or the antenna.
