I assume this best fits here since we aren't talking enterprise level.

I'm helping out a friend update his office and currently he is running some old 90's tech that has him limited to working only at the office because of a desktop/server he has running. I'll be setting him up with new router that will help with that, among with a 2 bay NAS (Raid 1) to reduce the risk of data loss on the desktop/server (Running RAID 0 hdd  :wtf:).  His database is less than 10 GB. I was looking at using one of the newer AC68U's and setting him up on openVPN. Anyone have a better low cost solution for VPN?

Also, I was curious if anyone has suggestions for a decent low cost off site data back-up provider? Not sure if setting up a second NAS off-site at his home would be worthwhile because of the up front costs.

You can rent a linux VM with 40Gb from digital ocean for 5 bucks a month. Just set up a regular rsync job over ssh and you're golden.
i have no idea how these cloud providers make any money at all!

On second thoughts,  I will provide your friend with 10Gb disk space at the low price of 10 dollars a month  :P

I thought about hosting him a VM on my network, but then I gotta deal with bandwidth. Telling my fiance she can't watch her TV shows because our friend is working would just confuse and piss her off lol.
I'll look into the VM hosting. He is anti cloud for some reason (probably security since he sells cyber policies).

Edit: hmm I like that. I can also do hourly... [emoji2]
