I am using windows server 2012 on Virtual box. Also, I have installed windows 8.1 on the same virtual box which needs to act as a client.

I have created a scope, gave address range  and configured scope options, I did everything right on server.

I am trying to lease out the Ip address to the client which I have configured on the same virtual machine. How do I make sure that my server on VM gives out Ip address to my client on same VM? Which of the adapters should I use? I tried using Host-only network adapters.

Is the virtual switch configured to point DHCP requests to the DHCP server?

Do we need to configure virtual switch on virtual machine running on windows host as well? I mean I am not doing this on hyper-v, VM should me give that option(adapters in network part) to create a connection between virtual server and client on same machine? I am confused lol.

For example adapters as shown in image attached.

Basically, I know that the virtual switch is pretty much the same as a regular switch... if they're on the same VLAN, there should be no need to configure an IP helper address on the switch.
