"Reddit user BaronHK reported that he found it impossible to install Linux on the Signature Edition Lenovo Yoga 900 ISK2 UltraBook because Microsoft has locked the SSD in a proprietary RAID mode that can only be read by Windows."

So when Windows 10 breaks, you wont be able to use a free Linux distro to fix Windows anymore, then.

Not sure I'd ever be interested in a Microsoft WindowsOS-locked hardware.

I also get the impression that MS are a tad scared about the popularity of other OS's and how good they are of late.

Its not that they locked anything, its because they didn't bother to write a driver for 'nix.

If they didn't bother with custom RAID it wouldn't have mattered. More an oversight (or don't care about 1% of the market, lets be honest)

Is that how it went down?

I read it that it was done on purpose to prevent other OS from being run on that specific hardware. If it's just that the driver doesn't exist then it's a worthless post IMO. Plus it just means wait some time before the driver is available (if someone bothers to spend time on it)

Reminds me of the old days, when installing WindowNT, we had to put in a floppy disk with 3rd party drivers on it, and load them before NT would recognize the hard disks, then we could then proceed to install WindowsNT.

Hey, if malware can't read the hard drive, it's a security precaution! Awesome!
