What the process for upgrading 3750X stacks, these switches contain C3KX-SM-10G modules. Previously when I've upgraded the switch, the modules won't run because of the code difference, also I get incompatible software messages when I try to upgrade the modules first,  I've gotten around this in the past by consoling into the switch and upgrade the modules, but this  stack I need to upgrade is remote, with pending outage if I can't get them up on the new code directly.

According to the docs, the C3KX-SM-10G module will function in "pass-through" mode if you have a software mismatch:

QuoteThe FRULink 10G Service Module (C3KX-SM-10G) software version is incompatible with the IOS software version. Please update the software. Module is in pass-thru mode.

Based on this, you should be able to upgrade the switch IOS first, followed by the 10GbE service module.

Is this specific to 3750 or is it same on 3850??? Ie having to deal with the module separately

I don't know if the C3KX-SM-10G fits in a 3850.
we've got C3850-NM-4-1G in our 3850's, which doesn't need separate upgrade
I wish I had a spare C3KX-SM-10G

thanks for the link mlan

Me:
Sips morning coffee while reading
Digs out old text file titled "Why I HATE the 3750 vol 3.txt"
Slight snicker as I add line 273
glance over list and shudder, then save/close.
quick daydream of viscous ways to destroy 3750s before I return to reality.

I have thought about using a taser on a 3750 before. Dont judge!
