Just got an email from Cisco that I can approve the new Smart Account for my former employer.

:haha1:

Rather than approve it and make them all lose their stuff where I used to work ("He hasn't worked here in a year and he approved our account?"), I did the professional thing and updated my account to say I've moved on from there. I'm back to "Self" as my employer since my real employer is a competitor...

when you make changes to your cisco profile, you pretty much lose all access, 'specially when you change company name. contact your HTOM and have them get you added back your company associated contracts.

yep happened to me. Even going from gold partner to gold partner the admin crap behind locating who to pester to re-add permissions was a pain.

That's when the HTOM comes in handy. Anything Cisco you can't figure out, get the HTOM involved, or if you are not happy with Cisco response,
HTOM, (unless it's the HTOM themself). Bu t they are usually very good at response. otherwise its the HTOM Duty Manager.

One reason I maintain separate Cisco accounts. I have a personal one that has basically guest access. No Smartnet, etc. I use this one for my certification stuff. Then when I go to a new job I create a new one for that employer tied to the company email. This one gets linked to their smartnet, etc. When I did some consulting work I had four accounts. It was a big help for making sure a customer was entitled to a download/license, and that I didn't accidentally "steal" access that was for another customer.

This also helps in this case as I would never get the email about their smart account as it would have gone to my old work email.

I like that idea, especially when it comes to licensing. at my old gig, I had a dickens of a time trying to transfer licenses tied to my CCO account, I was trying to transfer them over to one of the customers CCO accounts before I left, apparently there is no formal process to so this. so it never got done,  now I have old job and new job licenses dumped into my single CCO account.

That's a great idea. I'll remember that if I ever leave this vendor to cross back to the other side, especially if it's for a management/executive position...
