Training is so much more fun when you can do it somewhere other than the office.
Take a baseball bat and trash all the routers, shout out "IT'S A NETWORK PROBLEM NOW, SUCKERS!" and then peel out of the parking lot in your Ferrari.

Great! Can we book a K.T. session??  >:D >:D  ;D

I would always speak to my managers like this; If they are sending me work whilst I'm on training, I explain to them that it reduces the value of the training if I am being prevented from paying attention to it. We're only human, and at the end of the day I don't have a problem doing the work if it needs doing but it is at the expense of the company in the long-run.

Yes, but we need you to work this issue, anyway. We don't care if you get pissed off and go work somewhere else, we need you to fix this NOW.

(And then you wait 90 minutes while they fumble around setting up a remote session to the old Windows XP box they still have admin rights on because they have to install PuTTY so they can console it in to the failed switch...)

and you are missing hands on labs 6 & 7 from training while doing all this, and when you get back to training you find that lab 8 is dependent on completion of lab 6 and 7, so you do lab 6 & 7 while the instructor covering material for lab 9, by the time lab 9 comes around you've done lab 6,7 & 8, but have no clue what you are doing in lab 9. ( probably then you get called away again)

:smug:
(yeah, came in early to catch up on stuff before the days training starts)

... and when you get called away again, you spend 4 hours on the issue, having to move to where you can plug your charger in so that you can keep using your phone, and then, finally, you prove that it's not a network issue.

:awesome:

But then, since you're already part of the incident resolution team, they have you stay on the phone "just in case" as the server guys do everything in their power to avoid having to reboot a server.
