Changes in SPLUNK Certification

Attention Cert-Holder - we've got BIG news!

Splunk Certification is very excited to announce the launch of a program update.  These changes, which will go live at .conf18 in October, include an all-new exam platform, brand new certifications, and digital badges for candidates who pass the new exams.

For a quick reference, please visit our relaunch homepage.  Full details are provided below.

Attendees of .conf18 will have the opportunity to sit for an exam at our pop-up testing center.  Beginning in early October, the exams will be open to the public at all Pearson Vue test centers.

Here are a few dates you need to remember:
* August 15, 2018 - legacy exam registration is closed.
* August 31, 2018 - all legacy exam links expire.  No exceptions can be granted, as the exam platform will be terminated.
* September 4, 2018 - new exam registration is open to the public via https://home.pearsonvue.com/

Here are some important changes to our exam policies and procedures:
* The new exams will be offered onsite at Pearson Test Centers or via proctored online exam from Pearson.  Please visit https://home.pearsonvue.com/ to locate a test center.
* The new exams are closed book.  No course documentation, notes, or other reference materials will be permitted during the exam.

Already certified?  Please visit our recertification page for details. Here are the general guidelines for recertification:
* Current Splunk certifications (V6.x) will not be grandfathered into the new program.
* All V6.x cert-holders will be eligible to register for their current certification exam or the next exam in the series without completing the prerequisite exam(s) for one year.
* Cert-holders who do not complete the recertification process above by October 1, 2019 will be required to complete the full certification path including all prerequisite exams.

The new program will include the following certifications:
* Splunk Core Certified User
* Splunk Core Certified Power User
* Splunk Enterprise Certified Admin
* Splunk Enterprise Certified Architect
* Splunk Certified Developer *all new*
* Splunk Enterprise Security Certified Admin *all new*
* Splunk IT Service Intelligence Certified Admin *all new*

As always, Splunk.com/Education is a great place to check for more information. We will regularly updating our FAQ page as questions regarding the new program come in, so be sure to check there before emailing us your question(s).  If you cannot find the information you're looking for there, please feel free to contact us at certification@splunk.com and we'll respond to your case within 2-4 business days.

Still waiting to hear if I take no action, if my Splunk Certs expire? Everything they alluded  was about paths to Splunk 7.x certifications. I don't think they can fathom the idea of someone not wanting to upgrade their certs to stay Splunk certified (unheard of).  For the 6.x path they used to term "outdated" but have not used the term "expire".
