Anyone watching this? i think its great! technically really good too, only flaw ive seen is the IP ending in .37 and changing DNS entires to stop a DOS attack (instantly). but it was a good effort to be technical anyway

I tried watching the first episode and thought it was boring. Plus the sound of the guys voice "thinking out loud" was annoying as hell.

Mowery

I've been watching it. It reminds me of Fight Club, vaguely.
QuoteYeah, right... and 96% of the Internet being dark and mysterious? How about 96% of the internet being Cisco web pages I can never find when I need them...

I saw the first episode and found that, in the process of trying to break IT stereotypes in a show about h4xx0rz, it created some totally unbelievable characters. What boss announces to an employee on a private jet that he's gay? I agree that they're trying their best to be technical, but we've still got the main character as a geeky outsider.

"Halt and Catch Fire", on the other hand, has some great characters and I'm glad that the series got a serious rewrite. It had a lot of potential in the first season that got squandered in the last few episodes of the season, but it's taking off in the second season. Though it has plenty of stereotypes, it has them ALL, and even those guys have enough character quirks so that they don't seem like they were cut from cardboard. Moreover, nobody is a supremely gifted person. They're all smart, but still capable of bonehead moves... like accidentally sending a personal mail to the entire company.

Enjoying "Halt and Catch Fire"!  I agree the end of the first season was a little off but the second season has been great so far.

I like the main character, now you mention it it does have a fight club feel to the storyline doesnt it!

ill give Halt and Catch Fire a try, will the missus enjoy it or is it one for the guys only?

deanwebb

It depends. It does have strong female characters, but it's still about a very geeky subject. LOTS of modem noises and, honestly, I'm cheering for the modem noises...
