Push notification

would like to be able to get a push notification on my android phone when someone connects to wifi.  A notification would have to list the name of the device trying to connect.
Is there any 3rd party software that will do this

There are a number of tools that can provide that option, they will all depend upon a trap or syslog that the wireless controller can send. So we need to ask if the WLC can send syslogs or traps...?

Yes, otherwise you won't be able to get the notification when a device joins. The hardware providing the connectivity needs to be able to report when there's a connection made.

Also just so im clear it needs to send a push notification to my phone that a particular device or mac id has connected not just a device has connected

Now I am wondering if that wouldn't qualify as a parental control, might be available on some... but probably only an email. Sending notifications to phone will require some kind of text messaging gateway, not an easy thing to set up on your own and typically not at all a feature in vendor gear.

But with the solution I described, it's either an SNMP trap or a syslog that gets generated. Then, you need a server set up to read either the traps or syslogs and then take an action based on the content. Most syslog servers can handle the syslog and alert part, including the requirement to match on just one address for the alert.

Have the wifi AP or WLC use an EEM script that you compose that picks up on syslog for connection to SSID.
Have the EEM script send a plain text SMPT email through a trusted relay.
Have the email sent to something like an IFTTT (if that, then this) service which sends a notification to your device.

OR just have the email picked up by your android device.


EEM to pick up syslog and send email is easy and I googled for this a long time ago and found how-to's online.
