Hi all,

Does anyone have a good source, or can explain me what is the purpose and use cases of DHCP option 82 ??

I really have a hard time understanding why this even exists...

Thanks,

srg

Mainly to identify the physical or logical termination from where the DHCP packet originated. It's widely used for customer identification in provider/metro networks for example.

This.

I've used it before the only gripe I have with it is various DHCP implementations on CPE. The DCHP on your PC isn't the same type of DHCP on a some home-gateway-vlan-router-switch.
