Hello, I have recently passed my CCNA  Cyberops and have received an offer for moving from SP SE to a security company SE. They are small local company selling mainly to the local market. Most deals are for antivirus / anti-spam solutions, less for FW-s (they are representative of one of the big names into NGFW) because the local customers are rather small. My question is - do you have any idea what the SE for antivirus normally does? According to the explanation it will be design, POC and answering technical questions- but for me  coming from the SP world it is really strange - what an AV design looks like? What new skills into the security I can expect to learn (some of the things I heard were too good to be true => most likely they are not)? Any thoughts/ ideas will be appreciated.

It was announced as pre-sales. I think that some post-sales activities could be expected (it is small company) as well.

pre-sales, you promise the customer whatever he want's to make the sale. whether it's feasible or not
post-sales, you curse the pre-sales engineer for making promises that can't be kept.

I've never been in a SE position, but a few around here have made such a transition, they can probably chime in and provide a more helpful response.

SEs will do the POC, and for antivirus, I expect a lot of that will be in showcasing the enterprise dashboard for all the cool stuff it does and then explaining why all the other products are not as good as yours.

If you think the product is as good or better than others, go for it. If not, then see if you want a job at ForeScout, we're hiring folks.

This is the reason I am still not sure with this one. Looks a little boring and not tech enough compared to my current position.

P.S. About ForeScout- thank you but I doubt you have any jobs opening in my corner of the Earth.

Some are work remotely opportunities, and we're expanding internationally...
