Office laptop recommendations

Hi guys, what sort of laptops do you guys use for business? Engineers / project management / etc?

In my place we use a mixtute of Apple Mac Air and Lenovo T series (T580 / T570 / T560 / T550 etc).

We have Apple mostly because of the developers, but now that you get Linux within windows 10 there's no reason to use Apple anymore. (Also Windows integrates with the domain better in terms of security and policy enforcement, so Apple are on the way out).

I was happy with the Lenovo but as of T570 and onwards, Lenovo's quality control is really poor. Every laptop received in the last couple years has gone faulty, as an example; two new T580s that we received didn't even come with wifi cards installed  :squint:

So I'm keen to look elsewhere to see if there's something better out there.

Spec-wise, 16GB memory, reasonably decent CPU, SSD storage are the main things I think. I have a T560 with SSD since 2015 and it's been flawless (hardware-wise). The 15.6" screen I think is just right although some people want smaller laptops and therefore smaller screens I think going smaller is more difficult to work on.

Also I think any new 2019 laptop will come with USB-C ports and better SSD storage ie better spec as standard.

Any recommendations appreciated. Budget-wise I think I'm looking at around $2000 AUD each.

sounds like it's time to contact vendors and get some demo units.  new product evaluation can be a time consuming project. but ones needs to make sure that the new hardware will fit the environment.

I prefer laptops with 17" screens because I'm old and need more screen real estate to do my thing, which is reading without squinting or angling my head funny. I've got an ASUS that I've had since 2013, and I had an ASUS before that one as a personal laptop. If I get another personal laptop, it'll likely as not be a 17" ASUS.
Take a baseball bat and trash all the routers, shout out "IT'S A NETWORK PROBLEM NOW, SUCKERS!" and then peel out of the parking lot in your Ferrari.

Thanks all. I'm happy with the Lenovos, it's just their cruddy QA of late.

I had a contractor here a few years ago. He had a nice looking, small laptop. Must have been 13 or 14", but it was barely usable by a normal person because it had a 2k or 4k screen on it. The start button was tiny!
I think the 15.6" is a good middle-ground so am leaning to stick to that as the standard.

This can be difficult when you're a small company like here :)
