Caregiver faces resume gap & reference risk

In the January 7, 2020 Ask The Headhunter Newsletter a reader takes time to be Mom’s caregiver and worries about a resume gap and references. Question I left my job of 16 years with two weeks' notice and a cordial thank you to my boss. My boss was bitter that I decided to move on and it was very apparent my last day. I worry that if an employer calls and asks to speak with him he would not give me a good recommendation even after 16 years of service. I had assumed that most companies are just allowed to

I had a gap as well, and I called it out as a "Family Health Issue" and left it at that. There was a quick question in the interview, I explained that... it was a family health issue that required my full attentions... and then the matter was dropped. The gap is now 19 years in my past, so it's not likely to come up again.

It's still out there, if they dig deep enough in other websites. Not that they should. It's a part of the business that needs to back the hell off.

they call those "background checks"  just like when they look up your twitter or facebook profile, or other social media to check out who you really are.
