Got an Aussie friend on another forum that's gotten me interested in this sport. Come 2021, I'll be joining him in supporting the Geelong Cats.

I read a wiki article on the rules and watched a highlights reel, so I got the basics sorted out. I also know it's not GEE-long, but juh-LONG. Living in Texas affects the way I try to pronounce things.

Dean it's complete rubbish mate :) It's basically a "hot potato" leage. Just watch one game and you'll realise they just lob the ball anywhere and hope for the best. Not much skill involved at all. Plus they can assault each other pretty badly on the field and there are no send-offs. There will be repurcussions after the game, though.

They also play real football (soccer) the same way - no skill, just send the ball and hope for the best.

..and fall on the ground and hold your knee if you need a breather.

I take it you're not a fan, Dieselboy. :D

From what I've seen, I do rather enjoy it.

What was the drama about the pit stop in the race? Some conspiracy that they waiting to call a yellow till someone could pit? I didn't understand it.

I have seen a game of Australian Football. It was interesting. I didn't have anyone to explain it so we were googling, and just making up ridiculous reasons for the penalties.

Sometimes they hope for a safety car because it slows down the pack and it then allows more headroom to do a pit stop and change tyres and not lose any places on the grid. It just so happened that the safety car was called out at the "right time".
