How Fired Am I?

So...

I made a comment that got passed on up the manager chain to the Director level, so I know that the CxO level doesn't officially know about the crapstorm I've caused, but, apparently, my comment about a certain virtual environment not being ideal for the NAC appliances is being taken as a challenge to the very idea of virtualization, and various factions and parties are propounding the virtues or lack thereof regarding virtualization.
:'(

On the other hand, I *am* the NAC SME...  Good luck keeping the party and the project going if I'm canned.

But, back to the first hand, I always have a goal of nobody above my boss' boss level knowing that I even exist. Yes, the bigwigs talk about the need for employees to be "courageous" and "willing to rock the boat" and "question the status quo." I've studied WAY too many political purges in my day, and that's how they all start. Now that I am associated with courage, boat-rocking, and status quo questioning, I'm not certain that I'm going to have blue skies ahead.

As an informal assessment of how fired I am, with 1 being "no way, dude, you're golden" and 10 being "as soon as they find your replacement, you're on the street", how fired am I? feel free to press for more details to make your assessment.

Speaking your mind is a termination level offense? I wouldn't make it there one day lol.

No, fake execution video... or real one... would be termination level. Mind-speaking, I think, advances my token towards that part of the board, but only a few steps. I'm thinking I'm like level 2 or 3 on my scheme. With luck, I should be able to fade back into the woodwork.

Just get those vcp dumping morons to give your NAC a resource reservation... It's not rocket science . Ask for CPU and DAVG charts.

Just saw this: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/6531927/Bank-workers-stage-mock-IS-style-execution-of-Asian-co-worker.html?CMP=spklr-_-S9SunSocial-_-TWITTER-_-TheSunNewspaper-_-20150706-_-Video-_-204505846

Those guys would be an 11 on my scale...

Yes - this is in such bad taste it's unbelievable.  Those folks should watch the same unedited videos I have and maybe they'll understand why people like myself don't find ANY humor in joking around about ISIS. There are few elements in this world that I believe should be wiped from the face of the planet - and these are one of them - right up there with the Nazis.  I understand they're following what they believe, but they've killed so many innocent people in such horrible ways it's horrendous.  Maybe long after they're gone I'll expect to see some references (if there aren't already) to ISIS in Cards Against Humanity... but right now it's way too soon and way too real.

Knowing that you wouldn't say/email anything you can't back up with facts I would say you are at a 1. Unless you work for a company with leadership that follows the old boy network style of management, and some of those old boys are on the opposite side than you are. Then I rank it as a 10.

I often question the way things are in our environment...so often that I think I'm either too picky on how "the perfect network" should look, too strict on the way things "should be," or not accepting enough of the status quo.

I have done that... had to open a Remedy ticket, even. If they should screw things up, then the wrath of the mahogany gods will fall on them, not me.

You can never be too picky. I am always telling systems/app teams that their designs are stupid, and they need to do it my way. I started out successfully getting changes about 10% of the time, but every time they don't listen, and I am proven right I get more and more backing on doing things my way. Now I am at about 75% of the time changes to the project are made to include my suggestions. Just make sure you always have facts to back up your suggestions.

If it's a job worth having not fired at all
If you get fired the job sucked anyway

I don't know... it is tough to say because every company is different.

I speak my mind every day. (profile picture). I rip and tear things apart, only to show the light on the other end of where we should be as a company. The moment people like you and I shut our mouths and don't stay anything is when the company stagnates.

I don't see a big deal.

just get your statistics and the material to prove your statement, so if someone comes asking questions you have the documentation

don't worry Dean, you'll always have your job here.

+1 Sounds like a terrible place to work at.

Good news! Another guy in my group had his last day yesterday. I can do like it says in my signature and come back to work the very next day, and they'll be happy to have me.
