Ahhhh, that makes sense now.  -9.66 - 4.5 - 4.5 - extra patching will take us to the 20's.  And yes, we have the 15216-MD-40-ODD. 

Unfortunately, there's about 6 fusion splices and 6 jumpers.  Fortunately, one leg of the connection goes through one of our buildings so I suppose we could install some sort of amplifier if push came to shove.

Typically, when you need amplifiers you jump to an active DWDM system and the cost/complexity rises significantly.

You have 4 dB of headroom, I wouldn't worry about amps.

Then that answers that. 

Btw, I had our field techs clean the whole run and that took us to around -18 dBm Rx now.  That makes me a bit happier now.
