Haven't seen the video, but I have studied the history of the area... when the British and French carved up the Ottoman Empire after WW1, they didn't give a heck about which group was getting split by which border. They just took a bunch of land and carried on. When they left, the borders remained and successor governments tried to enforce their artificial integrity.
Take a baseball bat and trash all the routers, shout out "IT'S A NETWORK PROBLEM NOW, SUCKERS!" and then peel out of the parking lot in your Ferrari.
