You guys don't throw them on the rotation day 1? Trial by fire.

Sometimes, it takes a CRQ to get processed to update the list. :smug:

we have an extremely complex network environment, so we need to make sure people know how to do the job, have been doing it successfully for a month.
we put them on new ticket duty fairly quickly, then work them into the CM process, have them help, then as primary, after they've made successful network changes on their own. then they go into on-call rotation, for each of the 4 network duties that our group is responsible for. firewall, RA VPN, Authentication, and Web Filtering.

I used to work where the phone would ring, the level 1 guy would read, letter by letter, the IP address and name of the router interface that was flapping. Again. The on-call guy would say, "Acknowledge" and then go back to lunch or sleep, whichever was being interrupted. Unless the level 1 guy said, "no, need escalation." Then it was, "OK, email me the details" and then, whatever it was, we owned the escalation.

I *hated* getting the perimeter router calls... I'm a security guy, I wanted to fix everything with static routes. :smug:

Fun times, new car!

My weekend ended at noon today, since I'm on APAC hours, working noon-9pm today.

Next week is 100% PTO, baby! :D

New car is always nice. Is it that blue color? That looks pretty sharp.

I like that! Do you have the 9-speed transmission? It looks like the Toyota C-HR:

icecream-guy

I think it does have the 9-speed transmission,  the color is official "oasis blue"

.and yes, it looks very similar.

I work Sunday - Thursday so today is my Friday. I can't believe how fast this week went. While I was pulling into the parking lot this morning I commented to myself how empty it was, looked at my phone, and then realized what day it is. Then I thought about what month it is. Jesus.

I'm going to take a good timeout this weekend. I need to slow it down and refocus. Tonight it's time to have a cocktail and assess.

Yeah, I've been having 50-hour weeks in the rush to finish stuff by the end of the year. Thanksgiving was nice, I'm hoping I last the next 15 business days until Christmas/New Year's break.

Wishing one and all a happy and safe December Change Freeze! May your on-call phones stay quiet and may you get no texts saying "Sorry to disturb you, but could you check your email and please respond?"

Waiting for my replacement memory to show up for my laptop (hopefully the speed and voltage are right for my motherboard) so I can get back to Cities: Skylines building.

In the meantime, I'm doing a lot of CK3. It's a great game, and there are some unexpected surprises... like when my wife was looking over my shoulder as I was clicking around on leaders and we discovered at the same time how the Medieval Adamites were clothing-optional... there's some crazy nudity in that game, to go with all the royal incest and murder plots.

And by "crazy nudity", I don't mean loads of pr0n. I mean that people seem to go crazy and then, next step, clothes are off. Trust me, you do NOT want to see inbred naked smallpox victims... but I guess that's part of the charm of CK3. :smug:

Bahrain has been pleasantly cool this weekend. I took the old lady down to the farmers market yesterday to buy vegetables and we had a stroll on the grounds of an old Portuguese fort nearby. The night before we had a birthday celebration for one of my contractor friends. Dinner was awesome. Cowboy tomahawk steak, beef tongue appetizer, and habanero mac. Now I'm sitting on my couch having some wine and reading the news. Been a nice weekend and I still have another day off to look forward to.

Not gonna lie, my weekend is getting overshadowed by some issues at work. Sucks when that happens, but it happens. Meh.
